INTX Supports FareShare: A Year of Fighting Hunger and Food Waste
At INTX, community lies at the heart of everything we do. We believe in the power of collective action and the importance of giving back to those in need. That’s why, in 2024, we proudly chose to support FareShare, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste.
Supporting FareShare’s Vital Work
FareShare’s mission is to redistribute surplus food to frontline charities and community groups, providing millions of nutritious meals to vulnerable individuals and families across the UK. Their work resonates deeply with our values at INTX, and supporting their efforts has been one of the most rewarding parts of our year.
We first got involved in March through FareShare’s Miles for Meals Challenge, and later in November, we took part in their 30th Anniversary Big Birthday Fundraising Campaign to continue backing their vital work.
March 2024: Miles for Meals Challenge
In March, we joined FareShare’s Miles for Meals Challenge, pledging to collectively walk or run 1,000 miles throughout the month. What began as a fitness challenge turned into an inspiring demonstration of our team’s determination. By the end of the month, we had far exceeded our goal, logging an impressive 1,804.5 miles.
To add a fun twist, we split into two teams: the under 40s and the over 40s. Both groups showed incredible dedication, with the over 40s team logging 964.22 miles and taking the win.
Our efforts raised an incredible £645 (including Gift Aid)—enough to provide over 3000 meals for those in need. It was a fantastic experience that brought us closer as a team while making a real difference in the fight against food poverty.
November 2024: 30th Birthday Fitness Challenge
Building on the success of March, we took on FareShare’s 30th Anniversary Big Birthday Fitness Challenge in November. This time, we pledged to complete 9,000 minutes of exercise as a team—30 minutes per person per day to represent each year of FareShare’s vital work.
From walking and cycling to yoga and more, our team rose to the challenge, clocking an impressive 6,230 minutes of exercise. Alongside this, we raised £315, which will help FareShare continue providing meals for families during the winter and holiday season, a time when their support is needed most.
Why FareShare?
FareShare’s work addresses two critical issues: hunger and food waste. In the UK, 1 in 4 households with young children face food insecurity, while millions of tonnes of surplus food go to waste each year. Supporting FareShare gives us the opportunity to contribute to a solution that’s making a tangible difference in communities across the country.
A Year to Remember
As 2024 comes to a close, we’re incredibly proud of the contributions we’ve made as a team. From the Miles for Meals Challenge to the 30th Birthday Fitness Challenge, we’ve raised funds, stayed active, and made a meaningful impact.
In total, our efforts this year have raised £960, enough to provide over 4000 meals for those in need. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm and generosity of our team and everyone who supported our fundraising efforts.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on our year with FareShare, we’re grateful for the opportunity to support a charity that’s tackling food poverty and waste head-on. We look forward to continuing our commitment to making a difference in 2025, finding new ways to give back and support important causes.
Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and cheered us on. Together, we’ve shown how even small actions can make a big difference—one mile, one minute, and one meal at a time.
