Cultural Heritage

As the UK’s second largest city, Birmingham’s influence on modern culture can be seen in everything from music, to art, food and drink to sport. It has always been an important place for innovation; it’s home to one of Europe’s largest universities (the University of Birmingham) and has produced many notable scientists, writers and musicians over the years.

Art

The city’s vibrant music and theatre scene is another major draw. Notable musicians include Ozzy Osbourne, Duran Duran and Massive Attack; while theatre companies such as Birmingham Rep have been putting on plays since 1947.

Sport

Birmingham is home to a number of professional sports teams, including the football club Aston Villa and rugby league team, Warrington Wolves. It is also home to many amateur sporting events, including the annual International Triathlon Festival and British Athletics Championships.

Architecture

Birmingham is a city with a rich architectural heritage. The city has been influenced by its industrial past, which can be seen in its Victorian and Edwardian buildings. It also has many modern buildings that were built during the 20th century, such as Selfridges department store and Central Library.
