Cultural Heritage
London is one of the oldest cities in the world, and its history can be traced back to Roman times.
It is full of rich cultural heritage ranging from its impact on the world, to its many museums and galleries. There are plenty of reasons to visit and explore the capital city.
Music
London is home to some of the most famous musicians in history and has inspired many others. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Elton John are just a few examples of artists who have been influenced by the city’s music scene.
If you’re looking for an opportunity to experience some of these legendary musicians in person, check out one of London’s many live music venues. The O2 Arena hosts concerts by some of today’s biggest names as well as more obscure acts from around the world.
Theatre
Theatre is an important part of London’s cultural heritage. The city has a long and illustrious history of theatre, with many famous actors having performed on its stages. The West End is home to some of the world’s most popular theatres, including the Lyceum Theatre (home of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals), Her Majesty’s Theatre and Royal Albert Hall (which hosts concerts and other events).
Theatres in London are often associated with particular neighbourhoods: Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is located near Southwark Bridge; National Theatre sits on the South Bank near Waterloo Station; while Covent Garden hosts both opera houses as well as smaller venues like Donmar Warehouse which regularly host new plays by up-and-coming writers
Architecture
St. Paul’s Cathedral, a Gothic Revival masterpiece designed by Sir Christopher Wren, is one of the most famous churches in London. It was built between 1675 and 1710 after the Great Fire of London destroyed much of the city in 1666. The dome is an impressive 315 feet (96 meters) high and can be seen from miles away across London’s skyline.
Westminster Abbey is also a must see as the site where many British monarchs have been crowned since 1066 AD! The building itself dates back even further than that; it was first constructed during Saxon times when King Edward the Confessor ruled England (1042-1066). Today it serves as both a church and burial place for British royalty such as Queen Elizabeth II herself.
Food
As one of the most vibrant cities in the world, London has a wide variety of restaurants that offer delicious cuisines from all over the world. For centuries, the city has been home to numerous cultures, each bringing with them their own unique dishes and restaurants. From traditional English pubs to international cuisine from around the world, London has something for everyone.
